What methods followed for hardness test of wear resistant ceramic?

2016/06/19

Hardness is one of the most important properties of materials, usually following below metholds for testing and differences:
1) Vicker hardness testing: lower head pressure, able to test tiny samples and no damage the sample, but precision is lower.
2) Knoop hardness testing: lower head pressure, able to test tiny samples and no damage the sample, also precision is high.
3) Rockwell hardness testing: higher head pressure, requests bigger samples and may damage the sample, precision is high.

High alumina or silicon carbide ceramic, overlay welding plate and tungsten carbide usually follow the Rockwell testing due to their supper high hardness.
